Hsiao Chin was a pioneer in promoting modern/contemporary art in China in the mid-1950s, and was the first person to promote exchanges of contemporary art between China and the West in Europe. His works originate from Taoist and Zen philosophical thoughts, integrate Eastern and Western culture and modern art creation experience, and use methods to directly understand the nature of the mind to achieve spiritual self-awareness.
