Bernard BUFFET

Buffet was born in Paris on July 10, 1928. He lacked interest in general schoolwork during his middle school years and entered art school at the age of 15 to start his art career. Buffet's painting talent was natural, and his painting teacher once told him that his painting exceeded the scope of what he could teach.

His first solo exhibition in 1946 established his unique and strong personal style. The drooping strokes are like Gothic figures, repetitive deep lines, uniform cold colors, and rough and powerful black outlines. This kind of emotional expression is different from the emotional exaggeration of expressionism or the classical form of realism. Instead, the lines are hardened and angular. Its astonishing power of analysis and precise and rigorous description made art critics reluctant to comment. The poignant parts of his works still possess a poetic loneliness, and his severe brushwork has attracted many famous contemporary collectors. The painter whom Buffet admired most in his painting career was Custave Cour-bet in the 19th century, and he was greatly influenced by his spirit. Buffet's painting style is so unique and the inner self he expresses is so strong. Therefore, no matter whether they like his paintings or not, people will be deeply attracted by his unique style as soon as they see his paintings. From this, Buffet's status was determined to be impeccable. In his later period, he tried to switch to the usual monochrome colors, intensifying the changes in color and making the tailoring more rich.
