The French Fauvist painter Vlaminck is a famous representative painter of Fauvism at the same time as Matisse and Derain. His painting style is also considered to be the most characteristic and typical style of Fauvism. He used strong contrasting colors and wild brushwork, fully mastering the unique expression techniques of Fauvism.
Vlaminck is a dynamic artist. In addition to painting, he is also engaged in writing and has a strong interest in racing. He believed that his passion drove him to bravely and boldly resist all traditions in painting, without being bound by nature. In addition to oil paintings, he also created many watercolors and prints. Vlaminck's creations are mainly self-taught. His style combines the dual characteristics of Van Gogh's strong brushwork and Cézanne's geometric composition. His early paintings showed a strong and powerful visual quality, as if he wanted to liberate color from its purely narrative function, and developed his own unique painting style with broad and fierce brushstrokes like primitive expressionism.
