"People are timid, they hide behind customs and public opinion. Everyone knows very well that he is a unique person, born only once, and there will never be a second chance that can combine such a wonderful mixture of various elements into a single entity like he is now. Everyone knows this truth, but he hides it as if hiding a regret. Why is this? Because of fear of neighbors who demand that he conform to the rules and wrap himself in customs. What is it that forces a person to fear his neighbors, to coordinate his thoughts and actions with the group, instead of feeling his own joy?"
- Nietzsche, Schopenhauer the Educator
Shih Min-na, daughter of former DPP Chairman Shih Ming-teh, graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York.
She said: "People are timid, they hide behind customs and public opinion. Fundamentally, everyone knows very well that he is a unique person, who comes only once and will never have such a strange chance to combine such a wonderful mixture of various elements into a single entity like he is now. Everyone knows this truth, but he hides it as if hiding a regret. Why is it? Because of fear of neighbors who demand that he conform and wrap himself in customs. What is it that forces a person to fear his neighbors, to coordinate his thoughts and actions with the group, instead of feeling his own joy?"
The icons in Shi Mina's paintings are still recognizable as symbolic and totemic, but she does not want to analyze herself with language. Instead, she hopes that everyone can have a unique and different interpretation of her works, generating personal emotional resonance.
Schmiedner's paintings provide insight into her unique life journey from the perspective of mind and consciousness, and use colors and totems to convey emotions and feelings. She once wrote, "I dream of painting, I dream of writing, I dream of making movies, I dream of... But what is the theme? What to paint? What to write? What to shoot? I know that I must go digging. Like archaeologists, before discovering historical relics, I must first be a gravedigger. This will be a long road, and I already know how to take my first step."
